" CORCOVADO "
It
is located in a privileged area on the north side of a beautiful valley
surrounded by high mountains of snowed peaks, and ran through by the Rivers
Carrenleufú and Corcovado.

Like the rest of Chubut´s mountain area, this is an
ideal place for active tourism, mainly rafting, trekking and horse-ride tours,
26 km from this town - not far from Chile - is Carrenleufú Place. Here you can
drive over the border and reach -
after 11 km - Palena Village. Furthermore, the districts Los Alerces and Río
Pico are connected by a gravel road of great beauty that runs parallel to the
Andes Range.

Fishing Comments
Fishing is practised at Corcovado River which flows next to the town bearing the same name. There the famous Chilean salmon can be caught.
This specie comes to this area to spawn and then die. They are very big, weighing 8-12 kilos on average, some of them reaching up to 20 kilos. They are caught by spinning with spoons, specially designed by a villager, that cost $5 each. For this modality fishermen should take action rods from 15-25 Lbs., with medium to large front reel and nylon 0.37, since almost all the pieces weigh more than 8 kilos and fight strongly before being caught.
If inexperienced visitors wish to go along the river, they must take into account that there are very steep sides where it might be easy to slip and fall into the river, so it is recommended to contact a local expert who knows very well where the safe paths are.
Trout fishing at Corcovado River has diminished considerably. According to experts this is due to the fact that the salmons expel them from the wells where they usually live, so the trouts move little by little to other areas.
Salmons make their arrival towards the end of November and they go on doing so until the end of March. After the spawn they die, and the offspring goes back to their place of origin only to come back again four years later to spawn and die.
