GILDED TO SEEN FISH…
Unique moments in the life of a fly fisherman
Corner - Prov. of Currents
By:
Mario Capovía del Cet
After weeks back Dark brown Race came to house to
present/display to me to Evan and Barret, two North American young people who
left everything in their country of origin and decided to cross our Patagonia
with the single objective to fish with fly during six months. Dark brown it
fished with both in Junín of the $andes and to its return they were in seeing
itself again in Buenos Aires.
And here we were, chatting on its experiences with our trouts
during as much time (at least 180 days of camping or sleeping in the car.) and
seeing the great amount of photographies that had removed from their numerous
captures, I supposed that already they would be tired to fish and that they
would not see the moment for returning to its houses… but given to its youth and
degree of “disease” by the fishing, one of them asked to me: “ what possibility
has to fish some golden with fly. we still have left one week”…
I decided then to communicate with the Daniel Salinas, an
excellent guide of Corner so that it told me as it were the thing that way. It
explained to me then that had lowered to much the temperature - what it somewhat
appeases the voracity of the gilded ones, but that the pain was worth to try it
because there were possibilities of removing some so that they had the
experience at least… We decided an exit of two days (Tuesday and Wednesday).
Before the doubt I requested to Daniel who obtained a pair to him of equipment
for bait, of way so that we could make sure that they could remove some… thing
that they did not accept… “or with fly. .o nothing”.
Monday in the morning – day in which we were going to travel
at night calls Daniel to me to comment to me that it had the good news since
afternoon previous had discovered a zone where the water was very transparent
and had had many resentments… “it is left a little far, are not great but there
are many… if they do not move there of your friends are going to take a good
memory” said to me…
We in the morning arrived at Corner Tuesday to five and there
they hoped us to transfer us to the complex “Quique Pesca”, where we would lodg.
While we had breakfast we saw through large window of the
dining room the Corriente river totally ironed. There was no wind and it was
made a mirror…. the morning appeared really very pretty and without clouds.
Two hours of navigation separated us of the key place… while,
we made some attempts in two or three places that Daniel recognized as very good
and single in one we had several insolvent resentments until when affirming one
and seeing that fish was, we realized because… they were chafalotes… and some
very great, but could not remove no.
On the noon, and after crossing hundreds of streams by the
labyrinths of the Corriente river, we arrived at the zone of black waters where
they received two trasmallos to us that crossed the stream totally, thus was
necessary to raise the motor not to hook them with the helix…. Luckyly they were
the unique ones that we saw in all our passage.
Not less than 20 doraditos we removed that behind schedule,
which means that we lost at least other so many resentments. Like éramos three,
single we fished of a two not to bother to us, and were passing the cane after
each capture. The climate stayed very pleasant by the total lack of wind, which
allows to send with absolute comfort, to the fish to catch the vibrations of the
fly when falling, and being able to see any movement in surface.
Evan and Barret really were fascinated with
their experience although the doraditos were not really in good form, because
except for some the majority was quite skinny and with the tails very eaten by
palometas. Daniel attributed to it to that that bathed was long dark weather and
given the recent bajante a main stream had been opened, which allowed that the
transparent waters drained. Given the hour, we were in investigating it on the
following day overcoming it and to see to where it was possible to be fished…. I
controlled the hour of return and were two hours exact of motor to all march the
time from return to the cabins… was really far….
On the following day the morning appeared again with zero
wind, which makes of navigation a pleasure since in spite of the speed, the boat
seems that it was stopped.
We stopped single in the place where chafalotes had pricked
us. Evan removed one medium one and I a doradito… the usual photos and soon,
without stopping, we sailed until the mouth of the stream that we needed to
cross the previous day.
As it were very under Daniel began to overcome it very slowly.
The transparency of the water was really a aquarium… was so, that we could see
all the bed. Enormous an old one of water received separating to us slowly from
the boat (soon we saw two more).
In a passage of about 300 meters always we were urging on
small shoals of fish of medium sábalos between which always there was some
doradito and when presenting/displaying to them the fly saw them leave the group
and take it at full speed, others were brought closer distrustful and soon they
retired without touching them.
He was really spectacular. At least one dozen
of gilded we removed in that passage to seen fish and other so many without
seeing them. Also we captured six or seven tarariras of good size that we could
see watching in the coast, quietitas, almost with the back outside, those that
they attacked opening its fizzle and “devouring” our flies.
Soon the stream narrowed much, was very deep and with much
aquatic vegetation. That zone, of not but of 200 meters, concentrated an
enormous amount of sábalos. We slowly crossed it and in silence. Like a breeding
ground of fish, thousands of sábalos moved in a luck of “ballet”… we, altogether
silence, we seemed hypnotized before similar single vision… one or two very
small doraditos we could detect between that mass of fish… and not even we did
sends… the moment to them was too pretty like wasting the time fishing.
Evan and Barret could not have but luck since
at the end of channel it waited for a small group to us of leaves of Irupé or
Regal Victoria, plants aquatic that is not common in the zone. In order to have
a reference of its size, they put a beer tin on one of the leaves and they
removed many photos to them.
We retraced steps the stream until its opening fishing or
without fanaticism and with lack of appetite we almost removed some doradillos
but… the fishing or was done and the blood no longer boiled.
With a smile in each face we returned at full speed to Corner,
on cleared up waters of afternoon since like the previous day the wind was
nonexistent.
When arriving at the wharf Evan and Barret
they commented excited different situations from the fishing. I said to them
that they hoarded the experience since many years could come and perhaps never
they could repeat it. Evan, astonished, asked to me so that?… to which I
responded to him: vos pensás that is therefore the fishing of the gilded one?…
Is not thus? - it answered to me before which I commented to him that in my
case, in at least 25 years to fish gilded with fly, very not very often it had
had the opportunity to fish them in so transparent waters and to seen fish. I
believe that just then they managed to include/understand the real magnitude of
the lived thing.
Already in my department in Capital, Evan
watches to me, smiles and she says to me: Mario… “ the images of these two days
constantly come to the pretty mind… to me what!…”.
Before dismissing – to us since on the following day they
returned to the United States and while it saw as they rearmed the chaos of
knapsacks and purses that had scattered in my dining room, I remained thinking
about that rare luck that sometimes we have the fishermen to arrive at a river
at the moment and the exact hour…
According to Daniel, three days later and because of the
bajante, surely that dreamed stream would be almost dry and all their fish
already would have retired… It will be necessary to hope…
